매크로 없이 되팔아도 암표…8월 28일부터 판매액 50배 이하 과징금

Korea to Fine Ticket Scalpers Up to 50 Times the Sale Price From Aug. 28

Translation

According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, measures to stop the scalping of tickets for concerts and sports events will be strengthened from August 28, 2026. This is not the creation of an entirely new system, but a change that makes the existing legal measures on scalping tougher. The key point is that all illicit resale of scalped tickets is banned, regardless of whether an automated macro program was used. Anyone caught in such illicit trading may have an administrative fine of up to 50 times the sale amount imposed on them. In addition, an agency to receive and handle scalping reports will be designated, and a new authority to order businesses to submit verification materials will be created. Grounds for paying reward money to people who report scalping will be put in place as well.

Grammar points

N에 따르면according to N

Attaches to a source (a ministry, a report, a person) to show where the information came from. It is the standard opening of a news sentence, and the sentence that follows usually reports rather than asserts the writer's own view.

Example: 문화체육관광부에 따르면 암표 단속 조치가 강화됩니다.

According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, measures to crack down on ticket scalping will be strengthened.

-되다passive: gets done

Replacing 하다 with 되다 turns an action noun into a passive verb: 금지하다 (to ban) → 금지되다 (to be banned), 지정하다 → 지정되다. News Korean prefers this because the focus is on what happens, not on who does it.

Example: 모든 암표 부정거래행위가 금지됩니다.

All illicit resale of scalped tickets is banned.

N와/과 관계없이regardless of N

Says that the result does not change no matter what N is. Very common in rules and policies, where it marks the condition that has stopped mattering: 사용 여부와 관계없이 = whether it was used or not.

Example: 매크로 사용 여부와 관계없이 암표 거래는 단속 대상입니다.

Regardless of whether a macro was used, trading in scalped tickets is subject to enforcement.

-(으)며and (formal listing)

A written-style connective that joins two facts of equal weight, like -고 but more formal. It lets one long news sentence carry two parallel pieces of information without sounding conversational.

Example: 공연 표는 온라인에서 판매되며, 현장에서도 구입할 수 있습니다.

Concert tickets are sold online, and they can also be purchased at the venue.
