고용노동부는 2026년 8월 20일부터 ’단기 육아휴직’을 새로 만듭니다. 지금까지 없던 새로운 휴직입니다. 아이가 방학을 하거나, 어린이집·학교가 쉬거나, 아이가 아플 때 쓸 수 있습니다. 짧은 기간 동안 돌봄이 필요하기 때문에 만든 휴직입니다. 일하는 사람은 이 휴직을 일 년에 한 번, 1주나 2주 단위로 쓸 수 있게 됩니다. 이렇게 정부는 일과 가정을 함께 지킬 수 있게 도와줍니다.
Translation
From August 20, 2026, the Ministry of Employment and Labor will create a new "short-term parental leave." It is a new kind of leave that has not existed until now. You can use it when your child is on school vacation, when a daycare center or school is closed, or when your child is sick. It is a leave created because care is needed for a short period. Working people will be able to use this leave once a year, in units of one week or two weeks. In this way the government helps people keep both work and family life.

-기 때문에because
Attach -기 때문에 to a verb or adjective stem to give a reason. It is a little more formal than -아서/어서, and it is common in news writing and explanations. The reason comes first, then the result.
Example: 돌봄이 필요하기 때문에 휴직을 씁니다.

-게 되다come to, end up
-게 되다 shows a change of situation, often one brought about by circumstances or by a rule rather than by the speaker's own will. Here a new policy makes something possible that was not possible before.
Example: 이사를 한 뒤에 저는 지하철로 출근하게 되었습니다.
After I moved, I ended up commuting to work by subway.
-아/어 주다do something for someone
-아/어 주다 after a verb stem shows that the action is done for someone's benefit. Use -아 주다 after the vowels ㅏ/ㅗ and -어 주다 elsewhere. Note that 돕다 + -아 주다 becomes 도와주다 ('help someone'), which is now one dictionary word and is written with no space.
Example: 친구가 제 사진을 찍어 주었습니다.
