Korea's June Current-Account Surplus Hits $49.73 Billion, a Record Month for the Second Time Running

한국은행은 8월 6일 발표한 ’2026년 6월 국제수지(잠정)’에서 6월 경상수지가 497억 3000만 달러 흑자로 집계됐다고 밝혔습니다. 이는 전월 386억 1000만 달러에 이어 두 달 연속 월간 기준 역대 최대 기록입니다. 국제수지 기준 상품수출은 1123억 7000만 달러로 전년 동월 대비 84.5% 증가해 월간 기준으로는 처음 1000억 달러를 넘어섰습니다. 상품수지가 478억 9000만 달러 흑자를 기록한 반면, 서비스수지는 12억 9000만 달러 적자로 전월보다 적자 폭이 커졌습니다. 한편 외국인의 국내 주식 투자는 차익실현 매도 등의 영향으로 316억 1000만 달러 감소해 역대 최대 순매도 기록을 다시 경신했습니다.
Translation
In the '2026 June Balance of Payments (provisional)' released on August 6, the Bank of Korea stated that the June current account was tallied at a surplus of 49.73 billion dollars. Following the previous month's 38.61 billion dollars, that is a record high on a monthly basis for the second month in a row. Goods exports on a balance-of-payments basis came to 112.37 billion dollars, up 84.5% from the same month a year earlier, passing 100 billion dollars for the first time on a monthly basis. Whereas the goods balance posted a surplus of 47.89 billion dollars, the services balance ran a deficit of 1.29 billion dollars, a wider deficit than the previous month's. Meanwhile, foreigners' investment in Korean stocks fell by 31.61 billion dollars, under the influence of profit-taking sales and the like, breaking the record for the largest net selling yet again.

The reported-speech ending -다고 plus 밝히다 ('to make clear') is how Korean news attributes a statement to an institution. The quoted clause keeps its plain form before -다고 — 집계됐다고, not 집계됐습니다고. Compare 말하다 (neutral 'say') and 설명하다 ('explain'): 밝히다 frames the statement as an official disclosure of fact.

Attaches to a noun to say the new event comes right after an earlier one of the same kind, and so continues a run: 전월에 이어 = 'following the previous month'. A written connective that puts two facts side by side as opposites: 흑자를 기록한 반면, 적자로 (…) = 'whereas it posted a surplus, (the other) ran a deficit'. Use -는 반면 with a present-tense verb and -(으)ㄴ 반면 with a past-tense verb or a descriptive verb. It is near-identical in use to -(으)ㄴ/는 데 반해; 반면 is the shorter and more common of the two in financial reporting.

N(으)로 marks a cause, 영향 ('influence') softens it into a contributing factor rather than the sole reason, and 등 ('and so on') says the list is not exhaustive. That 등 is doing real work: 차익실현 매도 등의 영향으로 reports profit-taking as one named factor among others, so dropping 등 in translation would turn a partial explanation into a complete one.
