Six Cultural Properties Newly Designated Treasures, Including an Early Joseon Wooden Statue and an Iron Buddha

국가유산청이 8월 27일 문화유산 6건을 국가지정문화유산 보물로 지정했다고 밝혔습니다. 보물은 국가가 지정하는 문화유산의 한 등급입니다. ’평창 상원사 목조제석천의좌상 및 복장유물’은 2008년 발견된 복장물의 중수 기록과 국보 상원사 목조문수동자좌상의 발원문 등을 토대로, 적어도 1645년 이전에 만들어진 조선 전기 작품으로 추정됩니다. ’임실 진구사지 철조여래좌상’은 9세기 말에서 10세기 초에 만들어진 것으로 추정되는 철불입니다. ’안성 고신왕지’는 1414년 태종이 안성을 강원도 도관찰출척사로 임명하면서 발급한 임명장입니다. 이 밖에 서울역사박물관이 소장한 ’삼봉선생집 권1’과 호림박물관이 소장한 ‘이경윤 필 산수인물도첩’ 등도 함께 지정됐습니다.

국가유산청 announced on August 27 that it had designated six cultural properties as 보물, a grade of state-designated cultural heritage. '평창 상원사 목조제석천의좌상 및 복장유물' is thought to be an early Joseon work made no later than 1645, based on repair records in the objects found inside the statue in 2008 and on the votive text of the national-treasure statue 상원사 목조문수동자좌상. '임실 진구사지 철조여래좌상' is an iron Buddha thought to have been made between the late ninth and the early tenth century. '안성 고신왕지' is the letter of appointment issued in 1414 when King 태종 appointed 안성 as provincial inspector of 강원도. Also designated were '삼봉선생집 권1', held by 서울역사박물관, and '이경윤 필 산수인물도첩', held by 호림박물관.

Adding 되다 to a Sino-Korean action noun turns it passive: 지정하다 designates, 지정되다 gets designated. News writing reaches for it constantly because the doer is either obvious or beside the point, as in 함께 지정됐습니다, where what matters is the objects, not the committee. The pattern only works on nouns that name an action, which is why 추정되다 exists but there is no 있되다.

Example: 이 밖에 서울역사박물관이 소장한 '삼봉선생집 권1'과 호림박물관이 소장한 '이경윤 필 산수인물도첩' 등도 함께 지정됐습니다.

Also designated were '삼봉선생집 권1', held by 서울역사박물관, and '이경윤 필 산수인물도첩', held by 호림박물관.

-(으)면서while doing, and at the same time

-(으)면서 joins two actions by the same subject that happen together. Here the appointment and the issuing of the document are one act of state: 임명하면서 발급한 임명장. The subjects must match, so a sentence where one clause changes subject needs -는 동안 or a separate sentence instead.

Example: '안성 고신왕지'는 1414년 태종이 안성을 강원도 도관찰출척사로 임명하면서 발급한 임명장입니다.

'안성 고신왕지' is the letter of appointment issued in 1414 when King 태종 appointed 안성 as provincial inspector of 강원도.

N 등such as N, N and others

등 marks what precedes it as a sample of a longer list. This lesson uses it twice in different jobs: 발원문 등을 토대로 says the votive text is one of several grounds for the dating, and 등도 함께 지정됐습니다 says the two named items are part of a bigger set. Reading 등 as 'and that is all' is the standard beginner slip.
