Samsung Electronics' operating profit for the third quarter of this year has been provisionally tallied at 107.4 trillion won. This is the first time a Korean company's quarterly operating profit has gone over 100 trillion won. Provisional sales for the same period were 195 trillion won, putting its operating margin above 55%. Operating profit, which was 12.2 trillion won in the third quarter of last year, grew 8.8 times, and sales more than doubled. Abroad, only Saudi Aramco has passed the 100-trillion-won level in won terms, with an operating profit of 86.5 billion dollars in the second quarter of 2022, and none of the American big tech companies has yet gone over 100 trillion won. Because this provisional announcement does not include results by division, attention is on how much the DX division, which made an operating loss of 800 billion won in the second quarter, and HBM4, which Samsung began shipping in volume this year, contributed.
