Naver's Q2 Revenue Hits a Record 3.39 Trillion Won, but Operating Profit Slips

Translation

Naver announced on August 7 that it recorded revenue of 3.3888 trillion won and operating profit of 520.3 billion won in the second quarter of 2026. Revenue rose 16.2% from the same quarter a year earlier, helped by the performance of core businesses such as advertising and commerce and by growth in the global C2C business, making it the highest revenue on a quarterly basis. Operating profit, by contrast, fell 0.2% from the same quarter a year earlier under the influence of AI infrastructure investment and other factors. By business division, Naver Platform came to 1.9022 trillion won, up 12.3%; Financial Platform to 470.7 billion won, up 16.0%; and the Global Challenge division to 1.0159 trillion won, up 24.4%. C2C revenue within the Global Challenge division in particular rose 74.9% from the same quarter a year earlier.

From 힘입다 ('to draw strength from'), this attaches to a noun to name what made a good result possible. It is positive by definition — you cannot be 힘입어 a loss — so business reporting uses it for the drivers behind growth, and reaches for -의 영향으로 (neutral) or -때문에 (plain cause) when the result is bad.

Example: 수출 증가에 힘입어 경제가 살아났습니다.

Helped by rising exports, the economy recovered.

반면by contrast, on the other hand

Used alone at the head of a sentence, 반면 contrasts that whole sentence with the one before it. It is the same word as the clause-joining -(으)ㄴ/는 반면, split off into its own sentence — useful when each side of the contrast is too long to sit in one sentence, as with revenue and profit moving in opposite directions here.

Example: 지난달 수출은 늘었습니다. 반면 수입은 줄었습니다.
