Bank of Korea Raises Its Base Rate to 3.00%, a Second 0.25-Point Hike in a Month

한국은행 금융통화위원회가 8월 27일 통화정책방향 결정회의에서 기준금리를 연 3.00%로 결정했습니다. 7월에 0.25%포인트를 올린 데 이어 한 달 만에 같은 폭을 다시 올린 것으로, 소수의견은 1명이었습니다. 이로써 지난해 5월 기준금리를 2.50%로 내린 뒤 1년 2개월 동안 이어졌던 동결 흐름은 끝났습니다. 한국은행은 이날 올해 경제성장률 전망치를 5월 전망(2.6%)보다 0.7%포인트 높은 3.3%로, 내년 전망치는 0.8%포인트 높은 2.9%로 상향 조정했습니다. 올해와 내년 소비자물가 상승률 전망치는 5월 전망(2.7%, 2.3%)과 같았습니다. 반면 한국은행이 더 중시하는 근원물가(식료품·에너지 제외) 상승률 전망치는 올해와 내년 모두 2.5%로 높아졌습니다.
Translation
The Bank of Korea's monetary policy committee set the base rate at 3.00% a year at its policy meeting on August 27. Following a 0.25-percentage-point increase in July, it raised the rate by the same amount again a month later, with one dissenting vote. This ends the run of holds that had lasted a year and two months since the rate was cut to 2.50% in May last year. On the same day, the Bank raised its growth forecast for this year to 3.3%, 0.7 percentage points above its May forecast of 2.6%, and its forecast for next year to 2.9%, 0.8 points higher. Its consumer-price inflation forecasts for this year and next were unchanged from May, at 2.7% and 2.3%. By contrast, its forecasts for core inflation, which excludes food and energy and which the Bank weighs more heavily, were raised to 2.5% for both this year and next.

이어 comes from 잇다 (to connect), and -(으)ㄴ 데 이어 links a completed earlier action to a new one that continues the series: 7월에 0.25%포인트를 올린 데 이어 is following the 0.25-point raise in July.
