According to 관세청, exports from August 1 to 20 came to 55.2 billion dollars, up 56.0 percent from the same period last year. Of that, semiconductor exports were 26 billion dollars, a rise of 198.8 percent from a year earlier, passing June's 25.5 billion dollars two months later. Semiconductors' share of total exports also rose to 47.2 percent, 22.5 percentage points higher than the same period last year. There were 14 working days in the period, half a day fewer than last year, and average daily exports, adjusted for working days, were 3.94 billion dollars, up 61.5 percent. Passenger car exports, by contrast, fell 45.1 percent; this is read as the effect of the car industry's summer holidays falling early this month on top of partial strikes at some workplaces. Imports over the same period were 41.2 billion dollars, leaving a trade surplus of 14 billion dollars.
