AI Patrol Robots Go on Trial at Two Royal Heritage Sites Through November

국가유산청 궁능유적본부는 8월부터 11월까지 서울 덕수궁과 경기 고양 서오릉에서 AI 순찰로봇을 1대씩 시범 운영한다고 8월 21일 밝혔습니다. 평탄한 덕수궁에는 4륜 구동 로봇을 배치합니다. 험지와 경사 구간이 있는 서오릉에는 2족 보행 로봇을 배치합니다. 이번 실증은 중소벤처기업부가 추진하는 ’AI 순찰로봇 실증사업’에 선정된 결과입니다. 앞서 궁능유적본부는 지난 2월부터 2개월간 자체 예산으로 창덕궁에서 순찰로봇 1대를 시범 운영했습니다. 로봇은 일반 카메라와 열화상 카메라, AI 영상분석 기술로 화재나 침입자, 관람객이 쓰러지는 등의 응급상황을 실시간으로 감지합니다.

국가유산청's 궁능유적본부 announced on August 21 that from August through November it will run a trial of AI patrol robots, one each at 덕수궁 in Seoul and 서오릉 in Goyang, Gyeonggi. At 덕수궁, which is flat, it will deploy a four-wheel-drive robot. At 서오릉, which has rough ground and slopes, it will deploy a two-legged walking robot. This trial is the result of being selected for the 'AI patrol robot demonstration project' run by 중소벤처기업부. Earlier, 궁능유적본부 ran a trial of one AI patrol robot at 창덕궁 for two months from February, using its own budget. The robots use ordinary and thermal cameras together with AI video analysis to detect emergencies in real time, such as a fire, an intruder, or a visitor collapsing.

N부터 marks where something begins and N까지 where it ends. The pair covers time (8월부터 11월까지) as well as places and amounts, and both particles attach straight to the noun with no space. Korean puts the whole span before the verb, so a sentence tells you the period before it tells you what happens in it.

N씩 attaches to a number-plus-counter and spreads that amount across each item in a group. 1대씩 means one unit each, not one in total — an easy thing to miss, and here it changes the count from one robot to two. -(으)로with, by means of (an instrument or method)

-(으)로 marks the tool or method something is done with. Use -로 after a vowel or ㄹ (기술로) and -으로 after any other consonant (손으로). The same particle also marks direction (서울로, toward Seoul) and change of state (N에서 N으로), so the reading comes from the verb: with 감지하다, a detecting verb, 기술로 can only be the means.
