한국에서는 휴대폰 앱으로 신분증을 쓸 수 있습니다. 지금은 회사 앱 여섯 개에서 이 서비스를 하고 있습니다. 정부는 삼성카드도 새로 뽑았습니다. 삼성카드는 지금 앱을 준비하고 있어서, 이 앱에서는 아직 신분증을 쓸 수 없습니다. 2027년부터는 더 많은 앱에서 신분증을 쓸 수 있을 것입니다.

Translation

In Korea, you can use an ID card through a phone app. Right now, six company apps offer this service. The government has newly picked Samsung Card too. Samsung Card is preparing its app now, so you cannot use an ID card in that app yet. From 2027, you will be able to use an ID card in more apps.

Grammar points

-(으)ㄹ 수 있습니다 / -(으)ㄹ 수 없습니다can / cannot

Add -(으)ㄹ 수 있습니다 to a verb stem to say you can do something, and -(으)ㄹ 수 없습니다 to say you cannot. Use -ㄹ 수 after a vowel (가다 → 갈 수 있습니다) and -을 수 after a consonant (먹다 → 먹을 수 있습니다).

Example: 저는 한국말을 조금 할 수 있습니다.

I can speak a little Korean.

-고 있습니다is / are ~ing

-고 있습니다 attaches to a verb stem and shows that the action is going on right now. It is the polite formal form of -고 있다, so it fits news writing and other formal situations.

Example: 친구는 지금 식당에서 밥을 먹고 있습니다.

My friend is eating at a restaurant right now.

-아서/어서so, because

-아서/어서 joins two clauses and gives the reason for the second one. Use -아서 when the stem vowel is ㅏ or ㅗ, and -어서 otherwise; 하다 becomes 해서. Note that the first clause never takes a past-tense marker, even when the meaning is past.

Example: 비가 많이 와서 우산을 샀습니다.

It rained a lot, so I bought an umbrella.

N부터from N (starting point)

부터 attaches to a noun of time and marks where something starts. It often pairs with 까지 ('until'): 아침부터 저녁까지, 'from morning until evening'.

Example: 저는 아침 아홉 시부터 일합니다.

I work from nine in the morning.
