69.4% of Home Care Recipients Want to Stay in Their Own Home Even as Health Declines, Korea's 2025 Long-Term Care Survey Finds

Translation

The Ministry of Health and Welfare has released the results of the "2025 Long-Term Care Survey." According to the survey, 69.4% of home-care benefit recipients — people who receive care services in their own homes — answered that they want to keep living in their current home even if their health gets worse. That figure is 19.6 percentage points higher than the 49.8% recorded in the 2022 survey. By contrast, the share saying they would prefer admission to a nursing home for older adults fell over the same period from 28.7% to 17.6%. Among family members of home-care recipients, 43.5% likewise answered that they would go on caring for them at home even if the recipient's health deteriorated. People aged 85 and over accounted for 47.3% of all recipients.

Grammar points

N에 따르면according to N

Attaches to a noun that names a source of information — a survey, a report, an announcement, a person. It marks the whole following sentence as reported information rather than the writer's own claim, so news writing uses it constantly. The sentence it introduces often ends in a reported-speech form such as -다고 합니다 or -다고 답했습니다, though a plain formal ending is also common.

Example: 조사에 따르면 시민들은 새 정책을 잘 모릅니다.

According to the survey, citizens are not well aware of the new policy.

-더라도even if, even though

Attaches to a verb or adjective stem and concedes a condition: whatever happens in the first clause, the second clause still holds. It is stronger than -아도/어도 and often refers to a situation that is hypothetical or not yet real, which is why it fits 'even if my health gets worse'. The second clause typically states an intention or a wish.

Example: 비가 오더라도 행사는 예정대로 진행됩니다.

Even if it rains, the event will go ahead as scheduled.

-다고 답하다 / -겠다고 답하다answered that…

Indirect quotation: the quoted clause takes -다고 (statements) or -겠다고 (intentions, 'will do'), and the main verb reports it — 답하다, 말하다, 밝히다. Survey reporting relies on this form because it separates what respondents said from what the writer asserts. Note that -겠다고 keeps the speaker's own will inside the quote.

Example: 주민들은 이사 계획이 없다고 답했습니다.

The residents answered that they had no plans to move.
