우주항공청, 피렌체 COSPAR 총회서 태양권 탐사 추진계획 발표

The Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA) is set to announce its plan for heliosphere exploration at the COSPAR assembly being held in Florence, Italy. The heliosphere is the region of space affected by the particles and magnetic fields released from the Sun. Space-environment observation has continued in low Earth orbit, whereas long-term observational data on the space between the Earth and the Moon is relatively scarce. An Earth-Moon science probe, included in the phased exploration concept plan, will take on the mission of observing, in that space, the effects caused by the solar wind and the Earth's magnetic field. KASA Administrator Oh Tae-seok said that cosmic radiation and the solar wind can cause damage directly linked to people's daily lives, such as satellite failures and power grid anomalies. KASA will announce the exploration plan while also discussing cooperation with the space agencies of major countries, including NASA of the United States and ESA of Europe.
