서울시보건환경연구원이 올해 1~8월 목욕탕·찜질방·종합병원 등 다중이용시설에서 물 시료 2214건을 검사한 결과, 246건(11.1%)에서 레지오넬라균이 나왔습니다. 시설별로는 목욕탕·찜질방이 162건으로 가장 많았고, 종합병원 34건, 요양센터 6건이 뒤를 이었습니다. 레지오넬라균은 25~45℃의 따뜻하고 습한 곳에서 잘 자라며, 오염된 물이 물방울이 되어 공기 중에 퍼지면 숨을 쉴 때 감염될 수 있습니다. 사람 사이에서는 옮지 않는 것으로 알려져 있지만, 만성 폐질환자나 흡연자, 면역저하자 등은 감염 위험이 상대적으로 높습니다. 올해 8월 31일 기준 전국 레지오넬라증 환자는 509명이고, 이 가운데 140명(27.5%)이 서울에서 집계됐습니다. 연구원은 균이 나온 시설에 바로 청소와 소독을 하도록 했고, 안전이 확인될 때까지 다시 검사하고 있습니다.

The Seoul Metropolitan Institute of Public Health and Environment tested 2,214 water samples taken from January to August this year at facilities used by many people, such as bathhouses, jjimjilbang and general hospitals, and found Legionella bacteria in 246 of them (11.1%). By type of facility, bathhouses and jjimjilbang had the most at 162 cases, followed by general hospitals with 34 and care centres with 6. Legionella grows well in warm, humid places at water temperatures of 25 to 45°C, and when contaminated water spreads into the air as droplets, people can be infected by breathing it in. It is known not to pass from person to person, but people with chronic lung disease, smokers and people with weakened immunity face a relatively higher risk of infection. As of 31 August this year, there were 509 Legionnaires' disease patients nationwide, and 140 of them (27.5%) were recorded in Seoul. The institute has had the facilities where the bacteria were found cleaned and disinfected right away, and it is retesting them until their safety is confirmed.
