According to data that 강대식 (Kang Dae-sik), a member of the National Assembly's Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, received from KORAIL, 207 KORAIL employees were caught drink-driving between 2021 and 2025. By year, the figures were 63 in 2021, 48 in 2022, 61 in 2023, 24 in 2024 and 11 in 2025. Looking at how they were caught, 186 (89.9%) were uncovered through audits by the Board of Audit and Inspection, while only 13 (6.3%) reported themselves. From January to August this year, there were 3,936 cases in which alcohol was detected in a first check, but only 92 went on to a second, precise test. In the same period, there were 281 cases in which people took annual leave and did not have the second precise test. KORAIL's rules say that if drinking is confirmed before work begins, the person is barred from working that day, and depending on how many times they are caught, they receive a warning the first time, light disciplinary action the second time and heavy disciplinary action the third time.
