On September 2, 프리즈 서울 (Frieze Seoul) and 키아프 서울 (Kiaf Seoul) opened at COEX in 강남구, Seoul. This is the fifth year the two art events have been held together, and some 300 galleries took part. Kiaf drew 175 galleries from 18 countries, and Frieze drew 133 galleries from 30 countries and regions. The gallery 가고시안 (Gagosian) put together a booth of works by 데이미언 허스트 (Damien Hirst), and 리만 머핀 (Lehmann Maupin) filled its booth with works by 서도호. Frieze runs until September 5 and Kiaf until September 6.

-고and (joining two clauses)

-고 attaches to a verb or adjective stem and joins it to the next clause, like 'and'. It simply lists two things that are both true; it does not say one caused the other. Here 5회째이고 joins 'this is the fifth year' to 'some 300 galleries took part'. Note that tense is usually marked only once, at the end of the sentence.

Example: 두 미술 행사가 함께 열리는 것은 올해로 5회째이고, 갤러리 300여 곳이 참여했습니다.

-까지until, up to

-까지 attaches to a noun and marks the end point, either in time ('until September 5') or in space ('as far as'). It is the natural partner of -부터 ('from'), and news writing uses it constantly for the last day of an event. Unlike English 'until', Korean keeps -까지 attached directly to the date with no space.

Example: 프리즈는 9월 5일까지, 키아프는 9월 6일까지 열립니다.

Frieze runs until September 5 and Kiaf until September 6.

-여-odd, more than (with a round number)

-여 goes between a round number and its counter to mean 'that many and a bit more': 300여 곳 is 'some 300 places', i.e. 300 or a little over. It is not a vague 'about' — it never points below the number, so 300여 명 can be 310 but never 290. Compare 약 300명, which can fall on either side.
