1박 이상 섬 여행하면 최대 10만원 지원…9월 8일부터 사전 신청

Stay a Night on an Island and Claim Up to 100,000 Won Toward the Trip, With Applications Opening on 8 September

Translation

행정안전부 is offering up to 100,000 won toward travel costs for people who spend at least one night on an island between 1 October and 4 November, to mark '2026년 섬 방문의 해'. It covers travellers going to islands that are not linked to the mainland and can only be reached by ferry. The costs covered are what you actually spend on the island — accommodation, food, ferry fares, grocery purchases and the like — and applications are made by group. Applications are open on the official website from 10 a.m. on 8 September to 6 p.m. on the 21st, and if there are more applicants than places, they are chosen by lottery. After the trip you submit evidence such as your return boarding pass and receipts, and the money is paid once it has been checked.

Grammar points

-을/를 맞아to mark, on the occasion of

맞다 is to meet or greet something coming toward you, and 맞아 turns that into 'now that this occasion has arrived'. It needs an occasion in front of it — a year, an anniversary, a holiday — not an ordinary noun. Government announcements lean on it because it supplies the reason a scheme exists this year and not another.

Example: 행정안전부가 '2026년 섬 방문의 해'를 맞아 여행 경비를 지원합니다.

행정안전부 is offering travel costs to mark '2026년 섬 방문의 해'.

N 단위로by N, in units of N

단위 is a unit, and 단위로 says what the counting or the handling is done in — here that an application covers a group, not one person. The distinction decides real things: a 팀 단위 application means one form and one payment for everyone travelling together. Watch for 인원 단위, 가구 단위 and 팀 단위 in scheme notices, because they change who has to apply and how much arrives.

Example: 지원 항목은 섬에서 실제로 쓴 비용이고, 팀 단위로 신청할 수 있습니다.

The costs covered are what you actually spend on the island, and applications are made by group.

-을/를 거쳐by way of, after going through

거치다 is to pass through, and 거쳐 puts one step on the way to the next. It can be a place you travel via or, as here, a procedure that has to happen first. In official writing it is the polite way of saying the money is not automatic: something is checked in between, and only then does the payment follow.

Example: 여행 뒤 증빙자료를 내면 확인을 거쳐 지급합니다.

After the trip you submit the evidence, and the money is paid once it has been checked.
