국립생태원과 서울대공원이 인공증식한 금개구리 100여 마리를 8월 25일 경남 합천군 대양면 정양리의 자연형 농수로에 방류했습니다. 이 개구리들은 2024년 8월에 잡은 개구리로부터 인공증식에 성공한 개체들로, 두 기관은 지난해 약 250마리를 증식하는 데 성공했습니다. 개구리마다 초소형 PIT 태그가 붙어 있어 개체를 추적할 수 있습니다. 금개구리는 환경부 지정 멸종위기 야생생물 Ⅱ급이고, 세계자연보전연맹(IUCN) 적색목록에서도 ‘취약(VU)’ 등급입니다. 서식지가 줄고 외래종이 들어와 개체수가 크게 줄었고, 최근에는 기후변화까지 생존을 위협합니다. 동의보감에는 “등에 누런 무늬가 있는 것을 금선와라 한다”고 적혀 있어, 400년 넘게 문헌에 등장한 종입니다.

On 25 August, the National Institute of Ecology and Seoul Grand Park released some 100 captive-bred 금개구리 (gold-spotted pond frogs) into a natural-style farm waterway in Jeongyang-ri, Daeyang-myeon, Hapcheon County, South Gyeongsang Province. The frogs were bred from individuals captured in August 2024, and last year the two institutions succeeded in breeding about 250 of them. Each frog carries a tiny PIT tag so that individuals can be tracked. The 금개구리 is a Class II endangered wild species designated by the Ministry of Environment, and it is rated 'Vulnerable (VU)' on the IUCN Red List as well. Its numbers fell sharply as habitat shrank and non-native species moved in, and lately climate change threatens its survival too. The Donguibogam records that 'the one with yellow markings on its back is called 금선와', so the species has appeared in Korean texts for more than 400 years.
