Lotte Department Store is selling about 190 items, including meat, seafood and fruit, at discounts of up to 50 percent until September 3. Lotte Department Store's online mall is discounting 15,000 kinds of popular holiday items by up to 75 percent over the same period. Shinsegae Department Store increased its pre-order lineup by 25 percent from last Chuseok, to about 370 kinds. Hyundai Department Store is also discounting about 300 kinds of items, including hanwoo beef, dried yellow croaker and fruit, by up to 25 percent at stores nationwide until September 3. Chuseok falls on September 25 this year, more than ten days earlier than last year.

N 등 closes a list and says it is not complete — there are more members of the same kind. News writing leans on it constantly, because a reporter listing three of a hundred product categories still has to be accurate. In this lesson 축산·수산·청과 등 190여 개 품목 means those three are examples out of the roughly 190. Dropping 등 in a translation quietly narrows the claim, which is why it matters here.

N보다than N, compared with N
N보다 marks the thing being compared against, and it attaches straight to the noun with no spacing. Korean puts it before the adjective or verb, the reverse of English word order: 지난해보다 빠릅니다 is literally "than last year, it is early." It appears twice in this lesson, once with a percentage (지난해 추석보다 25%) and once with a duration (지난해보다 열흘 이상).
Example: 올해 추석은 지난해보다 열흘 이상 빠릅니다.

-고 있다to be doing (something), be in progress
-고 있다 attaches to a verb stem for an action going on right now. The polite written form is -고 있습니다. In this lesson 판매를 하고 있습니다 says the pre-order sales are under way as the article is written, not that they happened once. Compare the plain 합니다, which would read as a general statement rather than something currently running.
