South Chungcheong Province has converted land registers from the Japanese colonial period into Korean and digitised them, and as of the end of June 2026 they had been used more than 180,000 times. The total came to 183,426 uses, of which 160,466 — 89.8 percent — were for administrative work and 18,760 — 10.2 percent — were requests from residents. By purpose, investigations of errors in the land register came to 114,606, requests relating to registration to 35,022 and searches for ancestors' land to 15,038. Over four years the province converted about 3.136 million pages into Korean. It undertook the work to clear away a legacy of colonial rule, to preserve deteriorating old records, and to reduce the difficulty residents face with documents written in Japanese and Chinese characters. A provincial official said the province would raise the accuracy and efficiency of land administration while expanding services centred on residents.
