서울시립 남서울미술관에서 조각가 조숙진의 개인전 ’조숙진: 지나가는 자리’가 7월 29일부터 11월 15일까지 열립니다. 조숙진 작가가 한국에서 큰 개인전을 여는 것은 약 20년 만입니다. 작가는 1988년에 미국으로 간 뒤부터 버려진 창틀이나 의자 같은 물건으로 작품을 만들게 되었습니다. 이번 전시에서는 빈 액자 틀 218개로 만든 ’노바디’를 볼 수 있고, 야외 정원에는 인천 굴업도에서 모은 바다 쓰레기로 만든 새 작품도 있습니다. 일본의 미술 평론가가 40년 동안 가지고 있던 1987년 작품 ’저 너머’도 이번에 처음으로 공개됩니다. 관람료는 무료이고, 예약이 필요 없기 때문에 현장에서 바로 볼 수 있습니다.
Translation
A solo exhibition by the sculptor Sook Jin Jo, "Sook Jin Jo: That's How the Light Gets In," runs at the Nam-Seoul Museum of Art in Seoul from July 29 to November 15. It has been about 20 years since Jo last held a large solo exhibition in Korea. After moving to the United States in 1988, the artist came to make works out of discarded window frames, chairs and similar objects. At this exhibition you can see "Nobody," a piece made from 218 empty picture frames, and in the outdoor garden there is also a new work made from sea trash gathered on Guleopdo Island in Incheon. "저 너머" (Jeo Neomeo), a 1987 work that a Japanese art critic had kept for 40 years, is also being shown to the public for the first time. Admission is free, and because no reservation is needed, you can walk in and see it right away.
