설악산 출입금지구역서 다친 등산객, 8시간 만에 구조
Hiker Injured in a Closed-Off Area of 설악산 Rescued After Eight Hours
Part of the August 26, 2026 daily edition
Translation
At about 4:20 pm on August 22, a report came in that a hiker in their forties had injured an ankle on 설악산. The place where the accident happened is a closed-off area, and mobile phone signal does not reach it well. So one of the companions who was with the hiker climbed up to where there was a signal and called 119. Rain made it hard to send a helicopter, so the rescue team moved on foot and reached the site four hours later. After giving first aid the team carried the hiker down the mountain on a stretcher and handed them over to a 119 ambulance at about 12:30 am, eight hours after the report. Once the rescue was over, the authorities fined the group for entering a closed-off area.

Grammar points
-다는 Na N saying that ...
-다는 is what is left when -다고 하는 is shortened, and it turns a whole sentence into something that modifies a noun. Korean news uses it to attach the content of a report to the word for the report itself: 다쳤다는 신고 is a report saying someone was injured. The form changes with the verb type — -다는 for descriptive verbs, -ㄴ/는다는 for action verbs in the present, -았/었다는 for the past, which is the one here.
Example: 40대 등산객이 발목을 다쳤다는 신고가 들어왔습니다.
A report came in that a hiker in their forties had injured an ankle.
-기 어렵다to be hard to do
-기 turns a verb into a noun, and 어렵다 then says that doing it is difficult. The opposite is -기 쉽다, easy to do. This is how Korean states a practical obstacle without naming who is blocked, which suits news writing: the article does not say the crew could not fly, it says flying was hard. Note that 어렵다 here is about circumstances, not about a skill being difficult to learn.
Example: 비가 내려 헬기를 띄우기 어려웠습니다.
Rain made it hard to send up a helicopter.
-아/어서and so, because (of doing)
-아/어서 links a cause to what followed, or one action to the next one done in sequence. Choose -아서 after ㅏ or ㅗ (가서, 봐서) and -어서 elsewhere (먹어서, 내려서). Two things to watch: it cannot carry a past tense marker of its own, so the tense sits on the final verb, and it cannot be used with a command or a suggestion — for those Korean uses -(으)니까 instead.
Example: 구조대는 걸어서 이동해 4시간 만에 현장에 도착했습니다.
The rescue team moved on foot and reached the site four hours later.
