According to the National Tax Service's tax statistics portal, alcohol shipments in Korea last year came to 2,988,000 kilolitres. It is the first time in 27 years, since 1998 during the foreign exchange crisis, that shipments have fallen below 3 million kilolitres. Soju fell every year, from 862,000 kilolitres in 2022 to 793,000 kilolitres last year, and beer also fell over the three years from 2022, recording 1,519,000 kilolitres last year. When the recruitment platform 진학사 캐치 asked 1,347 Generation Z jobseekers between July 27 and 31, 42 percent said they do not drink at all. As reasons for drinking less or not drinking, not liking alcohol was the most common at 53 percent, while health and weight management came to 19 percent.

Korean news almost never states a statistic without it, because the sentence then has to be true of the source rather than of the world. Notice that the source named here is the portal where the figures are published, not the article — that is the level of precision this pattern is for.

만 after a length of time means that much time has passed since the last occurrence, so 27년 만입니다 is 'for the first time in 27 years'. The clause before 것은 says what happened, and the whole sentence dates it against history. Be careful: this 만 is not the 만 meaning 'only'. Korean reporting reaches for this pattern whenever a number is notable less for its size than for how long it has been since it was last seen.

-았/었더니 attaches to a past stem and introduces what the speaker found after doing something themselves. It is the natural way to report a survey: someone asked, and this is what came back. The subject of the first clause has to be the one who acted, which is why it fits 물었더니 — the platform asked. Compare -(으)니까, which gives a reason; -더니 reports a discovery.
