포항공과대학교 연구팀이 차의과학대학교 연구팀과 함께 장 조직을 닮은 새로운 세포 배양막을 개발했다고 8월 24일 밝혔습니다. 연구팀은 전기방사 기술로 만든 초박막 나노섬유 지지체에, 돼지 대장 조직에서 세포를 없애고 남긴 세포외기질을 결합했습니다. 사람 대장 오가노이드에서 얻은 상피세포를 이 배양막에서 키운 결과, 장 줄기세포 유지와 세포 증식에 관련된 특성이 좋아졌습니다. 기존 배양 환경에서 관찰하기 어려웠던 일부 분비계열 세포의 유전적 표지자도 늘었습니다. 연구팀은 이 배양막을 미세유체 기반 장기칩에도 적용할 수 있을 것으로 보고 있습니다. 연구 결과는 국제 학술지 어드밴스드 헬스케어 머티리얼스 온라인판에 실렸습니다.
Translation
A research team at 포항공과대학교 said on August 24 that, together with a team at 차의과학대학교, it had developed a new cell culture membrane resembling intestinal tissue. The team combined an ultrathin nanofibre scaffold made by electrospinning with the extracellular matrix left after removing the cells from pig colon tissue. When epithelial cells obtained from human colon organoids were grown on this membrane, characteristics related to maintaining intestinal stem cells and to cell proliferation improved. Genetic markers for some secretory cells, which had been relatively hard to observe in existing culture environments, also increased. The team expects the membrane can be applied to microfluidic organ-on-a-chip devices as well, and the research was published in the online edition of the international journal Advanced Healthcare Materials.

-고 joins two verbs in sequence and 남다 says what remained once the first was done, so 세포를 없애고 남긴 세포외기질 is the matrix left after the cells were removed. Materials research needs this shape constantly, because so much of it is about what a process subtracts. Note 남기다 is the transitive form (to leave something) against intransitive 남다 (to remain).

결과 is the noun 'result', and a preceding -(으)ㄴ clause names the action whose result follows. It differs from -아/어서, which gives a cause: -(으)ㄴ 결과 reports what was observed after doing something deliberately, which is the grammar of an experiment.

Three layers stack here: -(으)ㄹ 수 있다 for possibility, -(으)ㄹ 것으로 to mark a projection, and 보다 to name whose projection it is. The result is about as cautious as Korean gets, and science writing reaches for it precisely when a laboratory result has no application yet. Reading past the last two layers and keeping only the first turns a hope into a capability.
