한국관광공사가 지난 4일 미국 뉴어크 리버티 국제공항에서 유나이티드항공과 함께 취항 기념행사를 열었습니다. 이번 노선은 미국 국적 항공사 가운데 유일하게 뉴어크와 인천을 잇는 직항 노선입니다. 뉴어크 공항은 60개국 200여 개 도시를 연결하는 미국 동부의 허브 공항입니다. 행사에서는 관광 마스코트 ’호종이’와 ’무고미’가 첫 탑승객을 맞이했습니다. 탑승 전에는 식혜와 유과 같은 전통 다과 시식과 한글 서예 체험을 마련했고, 기내에는 한국 전통 문양 부채를 비치했습니다. 2025년 방한 미국인은 전년보다 약 37% 늘어난 140만 명이었습니다.
Translation
On the 4th the Korea Tourism Organization held an event at Newark Liberty International Airport in the United States, together with United Airlines, to mark the launch of a new route. It is the only direct route linking Newark and Incheon flown by a US airline. Newark airport is a hub in the eastern United States that connects 60 countries and more than 200 cities. At the event the tourism mascots 호종이 and 무고미 welcomed the first passengers. Before boarding there were tastings of traditional refreshments such as 식혜 and 유과, and a Korean calligraphy activity, and fans with traditional Korean patterns were placed on board. In 2025 about 1.4 million Americans visited Korea, roughly 37 percent more than the year before.

가운데 follows a group to pick something out of it, and it does the same job as 중 in this position. It is the native Korean word where 중 is Sino-Korean, and it reads a little softer. What matters when you read is the group it names, because that group is the whole claim: only US airlines are being counted here, not every airline flying the route.

잇다 takes two places joined by 와/과 and makes an object of the pair, so both ends sit inside one 를 phrase. Its adnominal form 잇는 comes before the noun it describes, which is why 뉴어크와 인천을 잇는 노선 reads as 'a route that links Newark and Incheon'. 이어지다 is the intransitive partner, used when something continues rather than when someone joins two things.
