Five Korean Dramas Fill Half of Netflix's Global Non-English Top 10

지난 7월 13일부터 19일까지 넷플릭스에서 영어가 아닌 시리즈 톱10 가운데 절반인 다섯 편이 한국 드라마였습니다. 배우 소지섭이 나오는 ’김부장’은 4주 연속 1위를 지켰고, 시청자 820만 명을 모았습니다. 배우 남주혁, 노윤서, 조승우가 나오는 ’동궁’은 이번에 처음 톱10에 들어오면서 바로 2위에 오르게 되었습니다. 이 다섯 편은 장르가 서로 다릅니다. ’김부장’은 액션 스릴러이고, ’오싹한 연애’는 호러 로맨스 코미디입니다. 9위에 오른 일본 드라마 ’휴먼 베이퍼’는 한국인 감독이 제작을 이끌었기 때문에, 이 작품까지 넣으면 톱10 가운데 여섯 편이 한국과 관계가 있습니다.

Between 13 and 19 July, half of Netflix's non-English series Top 10 — five titles — were Korean dramas. 'Agent Kim Reactivated', starring actor So Ji-sub, held on to first place for a fourth straight week and drew 8.2 million viewers. 'The East Palace', which stars Nam Joo-hyuk, Roh Yoon-seo and Cho Seung-woo, entered the Top 10 for the first time this week and went straight to number two. These five titles are all in different genres. 'Agent Kim Reactivated' is an action thriller, and 'Spooky in Love' is a horror romantic comedy. 'Human Vapor', the Japanese drama in ninth place, had a Korean director leading its production, so if you count that title too, six of the Top 10 have a Korean connection.

As it entered the Top 10 for the first time, 'The East Palace' ended up going straight to number two.

-게 되다end up -ing / come to be

Attached to a verb stem, it presents a result that came about, rather than something the subject planned. The show did not decide its own rank, so the article says 2위에 오르게 되었습니다 instead of plain 2위에 올랐습니다. The past form is -게 되었습니다.

Attached to a verb or adjective stem to give a reason. It sounds more written and more formal than -아서/어서, and it cannot be followed by a command or a suggestion. With a noun, the form is N 때문에.
