세종시의 한 유치원 교사가 아동학대 혐의로 재판을 받았습니다. 2023년에 여섯 살 아이가 울면서 두 팔을 휘두르자 교사가 아이의 팔을 세게 잡았고, 아이의 팔에 멍이 들었습니다. 1심 법원은 이 교사에게 벌금 500만 원을 선고했습니다. 그러나 대전지방법원 제4형사부는 8월 19일 1심 판결을 깨고 무죄를 선고했습니다. 재판부는 교육 현장에서 순간적으로 생기는 상황에 대해 교사가 상당한 재량을 행사할 수 있다고 밝혔습니다.

Translation

A kindergarten teacher in Sejong stood trial on a charge of child abuse. In 2023 a six-year-old child cried and swung both arms about, and the teacher gripped the child's arms hard, leaving bruises on them. The court of first instance sentenced the teacher to a fine of 5 million won. On 19 August, however, the 4th Criminal Division of the Daejeon District Court overturned that judgment and returned a verdict of not guilty. The court said that a teacher must be regarded as able to exercise a considerable degree of discretion over situations that arise in an instant in an educational setting.
