Part of the August 20, 2026 daily edition
Translation
South Chungcheong Province said that Cheongaru at Jeongsan Hyanggyo, in Jeongsan-myeon, Cheongyang County, has been announced for designation as a Treasure among the state-designated cultural heritage items. Cheongaru is the main gate of Jeongsan Hyanggyo, a two-storey building five bays across the front and one bay deep. The second floor was a space for studying, resting and holding Confucian rites, and the first floor has an entrance in the middle. Among the gate pavilions of Confucian schools left in South Chungcheong Province, Cheongaru is the only one that keeps its original form. When the Korea Heritage Service examined the main structural members by tree-ring dating, it was confirmed that timber felled around 1640 had been used. Over a notice period of 30 days, opinions will be gathered from various quarters, and then the designation will be finally decided after review by the heritage committee.

Grammar points
N(으)로as N, in the role of N
(으)로 has several jobs, and one of them is naming what something counts as or is treated as. 로 follows a vowel or ㄹ, 으로 follows any other consonant. The article uses both senses: 정문으로 ('as the main gate') and 보물로 지정 ('designated as a Treasure').
Example: 그 건물은 지금 도서관으로 쓰입니다.
That building is used as a library now.
-던that used to ~, that was ~ing (back then)
-던 attaches to a verb stem to modify a following noun, looking back at something habitual or unfinished in the past. It differs from plain -(으)ㄴ, which reports a past action as simply completed: 의례를 지내던 공간 is 'the space where rites used to be held', with the sense of a repeated past practice.
Example: 제가 자주 가던 식당이 문을 닫았습니다.
The restaurant I used to go to often has closed.
-(으)ㄴ 뒤after ~ing
-(으)ㄴ 뒤 attaches to a verb stem and marks the first of two actions in order: the second one happens only after it. 뒤 and 후 are interchangeable here, with 후 sounding slightly more formal. The article sets out the sequence a designation follows: 의견을 모은 뒤 … 심의를 거쳐 — 'after gathering opinions, and then through review'.
Example: 회의가 끝난 뒤에 다시 연락하겠습니다.
I will contact you again after the meeting ends.
