경기도와 한국도자재단에 따르면 11월 1일까지 이어지는 ’2026 경기도자비엔날레’는 도예의 정통성을 지닌 세 거점에서 각기 다른 테마로 펼쳐집니다. 이천의 본전시에는 영국 윌리엄 코빙, 호주 야스민 스미스, 프랑스 미디어·예술 듀오 세노코즘을 비롯해 국내 김창호·김시영·이완 작가 등 14개국 67명(28팀)이 참여해 ‘흙이 만든다’, ‘땅이 만든다’, ’지구가 만든다’의 3부작을 이룹니다. 함께 열리는 제13회 국제공모전에서는 77개국 1050명의 도예가가 출품한 1397점 중 단 58점만이 엄선돼 전시되고, 대상을 받은 독일 작가 데이비드 라우어의 ’펀치카드 하우스’가 그 앞에 섭니다. 조선 왕실 도자의 산실인 광주 경기도자박물관에서는 첫선을 보이는 특별전 ’우리 시대 도예 명장’전에 대한민국 명장과 경기지역 명장 64명의 작품이 모였습니다. 여주에서 열리는 특별전 ’낯선 전통’은 청자와 백자라는 정형화된 틀에서 벗어나 토기, 흑유자기, 옹기, 철화분청 등 비주류 기법을 조명합니다.

According to Gyeonggi Province and the Korea Ceramic Foundation on 20 September, the '2026 Gyeonggi Ceramic Biennale', running until 1 November, unfolds on a different theme at each of three bases with a tradition in ceramics. The main exhibition brings together 67 people in 28 teams from 14 countries — among them William Cobbing of Britain, Yasmin Smith of Australia, the French media-art duo Cenocosm and the Korean artists Kim Chang-ho, Kim Si-young and Lee Wan — in a trilogy: 'Clay Makes', 'Earth Makes' and 'The Planet Makes'. The 13th International Competition, held alongside it, shows only 58 works selected from 1,397 entries submitted by 1,050 ceramic artists from 77 countries, led by the grand prize winner, 'Punch Card House' by the German artist David Lauer. At the Gyeonggi Ceramic Museum in Gwangju, the birthplace of Joseon royal ceramics, a special exhibition shown for the first time, 'Master Ceramists of Our Time', gathers works by 64 masters designated nationally and by Gyeonggi Province. In Yeoju, a special exhibition tied to the art market, 'Unfamiliar Tradition', turns the spotlight on non-mainstream techniques such as earthenware, black-glazed ware, onggi and iron-painted buncheong, stepping away from the fixed frame of clear celadon and pure white porcelain.
