On 10 September the Busan Metropolitan Police held a forum to review how the public-safety environment is changing as the numbers of foreign tourists and foreign residents grow. Foreign visitors to Busan rose 24.3% from 2.93 million in 2024 to 3.64 million last year, and the police expect the figure to pass 4 million this year. The number of foreign residents in Busan also rose, from 63,000 in 2024 to 68,000 last year. The police decided to post foreign-affairs teams from the wide-area preventive patrol unit to places that draw many foreign tourists, such as 해운대 and 광안리, to prevent crimes against foreigners and disorder around tourist spots. In 금정구 and 남구, where there are many universities, they will run education for foreign students on avoiding drugs, voice-phishing fraud and sexual crimes. They will also expand the multilingual content of the mobile safety information platform 'SAFE IN BUSAN', and distribute QR-code notices at the airport, in accommodation and at public-transport facilities so that people can check safety information.
