Do Ho Suh's Largest-Ever Solo Show to Open at MMCA Seoul

국립현대미술관이 설치미술가 서도호의 개인전을 엽니다. 전시는 2026년 8월 27일부터 2027년 2월 9일까지 서울관에서 열립니다. 이번 전시는 그가 지금까지 연 개인전 가운데 규모가 가장 큽니다.

초기 작품부터 아직 공개하지 않은 새 작품, 평생 그려 온 드로잉까지 한자리에 모입니다. 1999년 작품 ’서울집/L.A집’은 서울의 한옥을 속이 비치는 청록색 천으로 다시 만든 것입니다. 대형 작품 ’Nest/s’에서는 관람객이 얇은 천 사이를 직접 걸으면서 작품을 볼 수 있습니다.

Translation

The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) is opening a solo exhibition by the installation artist Do Ho Suh. The show runs at MMCA Seoul from August 27, 2026 to February 9, 2027. In scale it is the largest solo exhibition he has held so far. Everything from his early works to new pieces that have not been shown yet, along with drawings he has made all his life, will be gathered in one place. The 1999 work "Seoul Home/L.A. Home" is a hanok house from Seoul remade in see-through blue-green fabric. At the large-scale work "Nest/s," visitors can walk right between the thin sheets of fabric while looking at the piece.

-(으)ㄴ/는 것the thing that ...

Turns a verb into a noun phrase. Use -(으)ㄴ 것 for a past action and -는 것 for a present one. In the article, 다시 만든 것입니다 means 'it is something that was made again' — a natural way to explain how an object came to exist.

Example: 이 빵은 제가 아침에 구운 것입니다.

This bread is one I baked this morning.

-(으)면서while / as (doing)

Attach to a verb stem when one subject does two things at the same time. In the article, 걸으면서 작품을 볼 수 있습니다 means visitors can look at the work while walking through it. Use -면서 after a vowel and -으면서 after a consonant.

Example: 형은 밥을 먹으면서 뉴스를 봅니다.

My older brother watches the news while eating.
