수원시립미술관에서 호주 작가 패트리샤 피치니니의 개인전 ’킨쉽’이 열리고 있습니다. 이번 전시는 피치니니가 한국의 미술관에서 처음 여는 개인전으로, 7월 23일부터 11월 1일까지 이어집니다. 작가는 1965년 시에라리온에서 태어났고, 1972년에 호주로 건너가 멜버른에서 작업하게 되었습니다.

전시에서는 조각과 사진, 영상 등 작품 56점을 네 부분으로 나누어 보여 줍니다. 피치니니의 조각은 실리콘과 유리섬유, 사람 머리카락으로 만든 것입니다. ’킨쉽’은 원래 가족이나 친척 사이를 뜻하는 말이지만, 이 전시에서는 사람이 아닌 존재와 사람의 관계까지 다시 묻습니다.

Translation

An exhibition by the Australian artist Patricia Piccinini, "Kinship," is running at the Suwon Museum of Art. It is the first solo exhibition Piccinini has held at a museum in Korea, and it runs from July 23 to November 1. The artist was born in Sierra Leone in 1965, and in 1972 she crossed over to Australia and came to work in Melbourne. The exhibition shows 56 works — sculpture, photography, video and more — divided into four parts. Piccinini's sculptures are made of silicone, fiberglass and human hair. "Kinship" originally means the tie between family or relatives, but in this exhibition it also asks again about the relationship between people and beings that are not human.
