Why Is Hangeul Day Celebrated on October 9?

한글은 세종대왕이 만들었습니다. 세종대왕은 1446년에 한글을 백성에게 알렸습니다. 그때 만든 책의 이름은 훈민정음입니다. 훈민정음 책에는 “9월 상순”이라는 날짜가 적혀 있습니다. 이 날짜를 지금 달력으로 바꾸면 10월 9일입니다. 그래서 한국은 10월 9일을 한글날로 기념합니다.
Translation
Hangeul was created by King Sejong the Great. In 1446, King Sejong announced Hangeul to the people. The book made at that time was called Hunminjeongeum. The book Hunminjeongeum records the date as 'early September.' Converting this date to today's calendar gives October 9. That is why Korea commemorates October 9 as Hangeul Day.
