Doosan scored first in the top of the first inning on a timely hit by Park Jun-sun. KIA levelled it at 1-1 straight away in the bottom of the first on a hit by Castro, then turned it around to 2-1 in the second on a timely double by Park Jae-hyeon. In the bottom of the fourth Kim Do-yeong hit his 35th home run of the season, holding on to first place in home runs. The starting pitcher Yang Hyeon-jong gave up six hits and one run over six innings for his eighth win of the season, his 194th in the KBO League. With this 55th win of the season, KIA closed the gap on fourth-placed Doosan to half a game.

The plainest way to join two clauses in sequence: 6-1로 꺾고 연패를 탈출했습니다 = 'beat them 6-1 and escaped the losing run'. Sports writing uses it constantly because a game is a chain of things that happened in order, and -고 keeps them in that order without adding any judgement about cause.

N째the Nth (in a running count)

Turns a number into an ordinal within a tally that is still going: 8승째 = 'an eighth win', with more expected. It differs from 제8회 or 여덟 번째, which fix a position in a finished set. Baseball reporting lives on 째 because every figure is a season total that will change again next week.
